Gender and Inclusive Data
Making sure data systems see the people they too often leave out.
Why This Matters
Most data systems, public and private, are built around whoever is easiest to count. In Nepal, that consistently leaves women, and particularly women entrepreneurs and informal workers, absent from the evidence base that shapes policy and investment decisions.
What This Means for OKF Nepal
For us, inclusive data means actively closing specific, named gaps rather than adding a general diversity statement to existing work. It means building datasets, training, and platforms that make women's economic and social realities visible where they were previously invisible.
The Change We Want to Create
A Nepal where decisions about women, and by women, are backed by data that actually describes their circumstances, not proxies or assumptions.
How We Are Doing It
A mix of specialised technical services (building datasets and platforms like WEData), training and capacity building (Gender Data 101, the Women Edition fellowship), and community building (the Women in Data steering committee).
