Communications and Editorial Intern - Vacancy Alert!
Open Knowledge Foundation Nepal (OKF Nepal) is seeking a Communications and Editorial Intern to plan, write, edit, and publish our public-facing content. This is a hands-on internship for someone who cares about getting the details right and wants to turn technical civic-tech work into clear stories that people in Nepal can understand and use.
You will help build our editorial voice from the ground up, from a simple style guide to a steady stream of posts, explainers, and short videos.

OKF Nepal is a non-profit civic tech organization comprised of openness enthusiasts. We believe that open data fosters a participatory government and civil society, contributing to sustainable development. The organization is actively engaged in research, advocacy, training, and the development of open knowledge tools, working at the intersection of open data, digital rights, and algorithmic accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Planning
- Plan and maintain an editorial calendar across social channels and our website.
- Build a one-page style guide and a bank of approved project descriptions so our voice stays consistent.
Writing and Editing
- Write and edit content in Nepali and English, turning technical project work into plain language for posts, newsletters, and project updates.
- Edit colleague drafts and fact-check every data claim against its source.
Multimedia and Documentation
- Produce short videos, captions, and social posts, working alongside our design team.
- Document events, trainings, and field activities with photos, clips, quotes, and short write-ups.
Review and Performance
- Proofread captions, graphics, and videos before they go live, flagging anything not ready for sign-off by the approving team member.
- Track what content performs well and suggest what to try next.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in journalism, communications, English, Nepali, social science, or a related field.
- Strong writing and careful editing skills in both Nepali and English.
- A habit of checking facts and sources before publishing.
- Comfort with basic video editing (such as CapCut) and Canva, or willingness to learn quickly.
- Reliable, self-driven, and able to meet regular deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Prior editing or writing experience, such as a college magazine, blog, newsletter, or news desk.
- Interest in technology, data, and public affairs.
- Experience using a phone camera for photo and video documentation.
Duration and Location
Flexible scheduling. Candidates must be based in Kathmandu, Nepal
(Occasional in-person participation in events, trainings, and team meetings will be required.)
The intern reports to the Project Lead and works with the design team. All published content is reviewed and approved by a senior team member before release.
