OSM Hackfest 2022 was Nepal's first national competition inviting computer science, IT and engineering students to build solutions for the public good using OpenStreetMap and other open technologies. Organised by the Open Mapping Hub Asia Pacific in collaboration with Open Knowledge Nepal, Kathmandu Living Labs and the Open Tech Community, and supported by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, the programme ran from June 20 to 24, 2022, in Kathmandu.
Teams from colleges across Nepal registered with a project idea, went through a selection process, then spent a closed camp week developing their idea into a working project plan with mentorship from the open mapping and open data community. The winning team was sponsored to present their work at the regional State of the Map Asia conference, and the event's success led organisers to plan a regional expansion of the Hackfest format in following years.
