A 2-day hackathon on Digital Governance is being organized on February 11-12 in Kathmandu, Nepal at Hotel Hardik, Bagbazaar.

Hackathons are a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and subject matter experts collaborate intensively on software projects.

The hackathon aims to bring people together to collaboratively work on problems that real-life digital governance projects running in Nepal are facing. The event is being hosted by American Embassy, with support from Ministry of Education, Hello Sarkar Nepal, National Federation of Disabled-Nepal(NFD-N), Federation of Nepali Journalists(FNJ), MaxConnect, chakrapath.com Code For Nepal and Programiz.

Program Structure

The hackathon will be a 2-day event where the participants will work to build a solution for a specific problem related to a real on-going project or program regarding Government Technology or any related field.

Unlike other hackathons, where the participants work on their own ideas, problems, and solutions, this hackathon will be a little different because the projects and problems will be put forward by the organizers and the participants shall be allowed to choose which project that they want to be involved in.

This is to ensure two things

  1. that the project stays relevant to a real world problem in the current situation and
  2. that the implementation of the project is continued even after the event is finished.

To achieve this, the organizers have partnered with people involved with digital governance projects that are ongoing and are trying to figure out their problems before the event. During the event, the participants along with a “Project Representative” from each project will work to devise a solution relevant to that problem.

Projects from several verticals related to Digital Governance are being covered, included and not limited to the following topics:

  1. Civic Engagement
  2. Digital Accessibility
  3. Journalism
  4. Education
  5. Financial Technology
