Climate, Environment and Resilient Cities

Bringing open data and civic tech to Nepal's climate, environmental, and disaster challenges.

Why This Matters

Nepal faces mounting climate and disaster risk, from floods and landslides to urban heat and air quality, but the environmental and municipal data needed for good planning and fast disaster response is often incomplete, siloed, or simply not public.

What This Means for OKF Nepal

For us, this means applying open data and civic tech, especially the municipal-level data integration work we have already built through IDMS, toward environmental monitoring, disaster preparedness, and sustainable urban planning, and mapping our cities well enough that both citizens and planners can see what is actually on the ground.

The Change We Want to Create

Nepali cities and communities that plan for climate and disaster risk using open, shared data rather than fragmented information held separately by each agency.

How We Are Doing It

Through specialised technical services (municipal data integration, urban mapping) and research and analysis (building the environmental and disaster datasets Nepal's cities need but do not yet have), extending directly from the infrastructure we have already proven through IDMS.
